The Adidas Techstar Meteor, a shoe made popular in Europe, particularly within France was the style chosen for this collaboration shoe released in late 2004 between Adidas and the National Australia Bank (NAB) to commemorate the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

The National Australia Bank is an 'Official Partner' of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. They are the official banking and financial services provider to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation, providing a range of services including bank accounts, foreign exchange and merchant banking facilities. NAB is also a sponsor of the Queen's Baton Relay and Games Ceremony Program, supporting both the opening and closing ceremonies.

Adidas, is the official supplier of uniforms to the Australian Commonwealth team. Adidas will also provide athletes with an extensive range of training gear, village wear and accessories. All athletes in all sports will benefit from ClimaCool® fabrics. The athletics team will take to the MCG in Adidas’ new Techfit sprint suit which features Powerweb technology that amplifies the natural movement of the sprinter.

When released, most employees of the National Australia Bank were given a pair after nominating their chosen size. However, it was interesting to note that due to the sizing problems of the shoes, some were given away to fellow family and friends etc. Since their release in 2004, they are now rarely seen and we fortunate to obtain a handful of pairs, which are constructed using both synthetic leather and a fine mesh.

The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games will be the largest event ever staged in Victoria. More than 4,500 athletes will compete in 16 sports and 24 disciplines. The Games will be held from 15-26 March, 2006.
