This is the one that started it all back in 1987, the Air Max 1. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the first shoe with a Visible Air unit. This shoe was literally a a turning point in the sneaker design. Legend has it that showing off the air unit was not the only reason for the window. With the air unit so big the material at the sides became so thin it split during testing.

This retro release from 2001 is very similar to an early and original colorway of the Nike Air Max '87. This style features full grain leather uppers, and a jewel swoosh, reminiscent of other retro styles (such as the Nike Air Force 1) released early in the millennium.

It had a limited distribution in Canada (& Europe?), and within Australia, as it was available exclusively only through Footlocker.
